Mailman Lists at the City of Loveland
Mailman is a web based mail list
manager used by the City of Loveland.
The software is used for managing electronic mail discussion and
e-newsletter lists. The software enables City staff to more effectively use
e-mail for mass mailings. E-mail distribution lists in an e-mail
client such as Outlook do not provide adequate options for; privacy, control over
who can subscribe, control over who can post, and moderation of
postings.
Mailman provides roles for use as a
subscriber and / or list moderator. Individual list owner and
system administration roles are used by the Information Technology
Department of the City of Loveland.
-
Subscriber:
Someone who has subscribed to a list, receives
messages posted to the list, and may also post messages for
distribution to the list is a subscriber. Who may post, and how
it is done, may be controlled by the list owners. A subscriber
has no administrative power over list operation, but can change
a few of his or her own subscription settings. For example, a
subscriber can decide to receive message "digests" rather than
individual postings.
-
List Moderator:
List moderators are assigned by the list owners
and can manage list subscriptions and postings.
-
List Owner:
IT staff will act as each list owner and will be
responsible for configuration, maintenance and operation of the
list. The list owner will establish list moderators to manage
member subscription and list posting.
